Tyres: the most important component of your
motorcycle. The only contact between you and the road, if they're not in top shape
then you're not only risking your safety but potentially 3 points on your
licence and a £60 fine.
Before
selecting replacement tyres for your bike consider the
type of riding you do and what you want from your tyres - we can advise
you on this and
recommend suitable alternatives to OE fitment tyres for
all types of motorcycles. High performance sports tyres
will wear out more quickly; that's the trade-off you make
for the extra levels of grip they provide.

Tyre tips
Tyre pressures. The
inflation pressure of a tyre is vital to its
performance, and it's essential for both safety and
performance that you regularly check your tyre pressures
and maintain them at the recommended p.s.i. for your bike.
Too low and the tyre will deform, reducing its
effectiveness, and increasing
wear and fuel consumption. Similarly, over-inflation increases wear
and reduces potential grip.
Warming tyres.
The traction provided by motorcycle tyres improves
dramatically with temperature. Bike tyres can take several
miles to get up to temperature; you should never push
the bike hard until the tyres have had a chance to warm
properly. Warming is a function of road contact and
braking forces. A common misconception is that weaving the
bike from side to side will warm the tyres more quickly,
though this actually has a negligible effect. Warming the tyres is even more critical when
track riding - many track day 'offs' happen on the first
lap for this reason.
New tyres.
When new tyres
are fitted, they should not be subjected to maximum power,
acute angles of lean or hard cornering until a reasonable
'scrubbing-in' distance of approximately 100 miles has been
covered. This will permit the rider to become accustomed
to the feel of the new tyres or tyre combination, find the
edge, and achieve optimum road grip for a range of speeds,
acceleration and handling use. Check and adjust inflation
pressure to recommended levels after tyre cools for at
least three (3) hours following run-in. Remember, new
tyres will have a very different contact patch and
lean-over edge.
